Inspiration

We were inspired by the need to improve the quality of life and economic opportunities for the people living in rural areas of India. We wanted to create a sustainable and innovative solution that would address the challenges of poor road connectivity, lack of electricity, and water scarcity.

What it does

Our project is a holistic infrastructure development model that integrates three components: solar-powered roads, smart microgrids, and rainwater harvesting systems. The solar-powered roads use photovoltaic panels embedded in the pavement to generate electricity and transmit it to the smart microgrids, which distribute and manage the power supply for the local communities. The rainwater harvesting systems collect and store rainwater from the roads and rooftops, and provide clean and safe water for domestic and agricultural use.

How we built it

We used a combination of existing and emerging technologies, such as modular pavement, wireless power transfer, blockchain, and IoT, to design and implement our project. We also collaborated with local stakeholders, such as government agencies, NGOs, and community leaders, to ensure the feasibility and sustainability of our project.

Challenges we ran into

Finding suitable locations and materials for the solar-powered roads Ensuring the reliability and security of the wireless power transfer and the smart microgrids Developing a user-friendly and transparent platform for the blockchain-based energy trading and management Adapting the rainwater harvesting systems to the local climate and terrain conditions Obtaining the necessary permits and approvals from the authorities Raising awareness and acceptance among the potential beneficiaries and users of our project

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a novel and integrated infrastructure development model that can be replicated and scaled up in other regions Providing clean and renewable energy, water, and mobility to the rural communities, thereby improving their living standards and economic opportunities Reducing the environmental impact and carbon footprint of the conventional infrastructure systems Empowering the local communities to participate and benefit from the energy and water markets Demonstrating the potential of interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration for social innovation

What we learned

The importance of understanding and addressing the needs and preferences of the end-users and stakeholders The challenges and opportunities of applying and integrating different technologies and disciplines The value of teamwork, communication, and creativity in solving complex and real-world problems

What's next for Infrastructure

Conducting further testing and evaluation of our prototype and pilot Seeking feedback and validation from the experts and users Securing more funding and partnerships to scale up and expand our project Exploring other applications and markets for our project Disseminating and sharing our project outcomes and learnings with the wider community
