Inspiration

The need for a modern, efficient IT Service Management tool that simplifies operations and enhances productivity inspired ITSM-NextGen.

What it does

ITSM-NextGen tracks incidents, manages assets, and handles change requests seamlessly, empowering IT teams with real-time insights.

How we built it

We used a scalable backend with Express.js and SQLite, integrated with a React frontend for a user-friendly interface, and robust APIs for efficient data handling.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing feature richness with simplicity, ensuring database scalability, and integrating seamless communication between modules were key challenges.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Delivering a fully functional, intuitive ITSM solution that streamlines IT workflows and provides actionable insights.

Project Vision and Architecture:

• Played a key role in conceptualizing the ITSM NextGen project to streamline IT operations management.
• Designed a modular architecture that integrates Incident Management, Change Request Management, and Asset Management under a unified system.

Frontend Development:
• Developed responsive and user-friendly interfaces using React for core components like:
• Dashboard: Displays real-time statistics for incidents, change requests, and assets.
• IncidentList and ViewAssets: Provides detailed views with scrollable tables for large datasets.
• Implemented dynamic styling to enhance the visual appeal and ensure cross-browser compatibility.
• Added enhancements like a helpful chatbot to answer queries, making the system more interactive and accessible.

Backend Development:
• Built and maintained a robust backend using Node.js and SQLite to handle API requests efficiently.
• Designed and implemented endpoints such as:
• /api/dashboard-stats to provide real-time statistics.
• CRUD operations for incidents, change requests, and assets.
• Ensured data integrity by leveraging SQLAlchemy for seamless database interactions.

Database Management:
• Created and optimized database schemas for Incidents, Requests, and Assets.
• Populated tables with meaningful sample data for testing and demonstration purposes.
• Wrote SQL queries for aggregating data to support dashboard statistics and reports.

API Integration:
• Integrated the backend with the frontend using Axios for real-time data fetching.
• Built a globally accessible api.js service for managing API calls efficiently.
• UI/UX Enhancements:

• Addressed layout issues like overlapping table headings and missing scrollbars.
• Improved accessibility by ensuring tables are responsive and scrollable.
• Centralized components like the dashboard and asset view to maintain visual consistency.

Error Handling and Debugging:
• Implemented robust error handling across the frontend and backend.
• Debugged API responses and ensured accurate data retrieval using logs and developer tools.

Deployment and Hosting:
• Configured the system to run on an AlmaLinux server, ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Managed frontend and backend services running on specific ports (e.g., 3074 for backend, 3075 for frontend).
• Prepared service files for seamless deployment and live hosting.

Innovation with Chatbot:
• Designed and integrated an AI-driven chatbot that handles queries related to:
• Incidents (e.g., count, priority, status).
• Assets (e.g., owner, location, type).
• Change requests (e.g., status, affected services).
• Enhanced the chatbot’s capabilities to handle 60+ queries with precise responses.

Future Vision:
• Proposed advanced features such as predictive analytics, IoT integration, and multi-language support for a global reach.
• Designed the system to be extensible, allowing integration with tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Atlassian products.
