Inspiration

In this age of big tech companies and data privacy scares, it's more important than ever to make sure your data is safe. There have been many applications made to replicate existing products with the added benefit of data privacy, but one type of data that has yet to be decentralized is job application data. You could reveal a lot of private personal data while applying to jobs through job posting websites. We decided to make a site that guarantees this won't happen and also helps people automate the busy work involved with applying to jobs

What it does

JOBd is a job postings website where users own all of their data and can automate a lot of the job search process. It uses Blockstack technology to ensure that all of your employment history, demographic info, and other personal details used during job applications are stored in a location you trust and that it can't be saved and used by the website. It also uses stdlib to automate email replies to job application updates and creates spreadsheets for user recordkeeping.

How we built it

We used the Gaia storage system from Blockstack to store users' personal profile info and resumes. We used stdlib to easily create API workflows to integrate Gmail and Google sheets into our project. We built the website using React, Material UI, Mobx, and TypeScript.

Challenges we ran into

Learning how to use Blockstack and stdlib during the hackathon, struggling to create a cohesive project with different skillsets, and maintaining sanity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We got a functional website working and used the technologies and APIs we set out to use. We also came up with an idea we haven't found elsewhere and implemented the valuable features we came up with.
