Ever since the pandemic began, conditions of social distancing and isolation became prevalent. Depression, anxiety, and pain became society’s second face and many of us went through hard times, trying to cope with the lack of communication and maybe even the loss of a loved one. In today’s busy, constantly moving world, we miss out on the importance of our mental health and stability. We forget the importance of letting out our worries, our problems, and getting them out of our systems. There are many different ways to do so, one of which is to write a diary. Our project - Jottings, provides the world with an interactive diary. Jottings is essentially a website that people can use to write about whatever they want. Not only that, but they can also listen to the calming music while writing in the diary. The diary does not save the data that the users type although users also have an option to not store the data and thus log in as guests, however, the data won’t be saved. Writing a diary can help vent out unwanted emotions and also help one calm down. However, sometimes, one might need a companion. The best thing about the website, however, is a chatbot that one can rant to. The chatbot provides an almost humanlike experience and allows the user to feel unjudged and would perform the job of a shoulder that one rests on in times of despair and loneliness when no one is around. The bot also motivates the users. We used an open-source python program for the bot and modified it to our purpose of being able to provide a source of comfort and communication. The bot thus functions as an outlet for the varied moods, emotions, and problems that people go through. We believe that our project helps in the mental well-being of its users and also makes sure that the users feel burdenless after they have written their thoughts in the diary, or listened to the music they want to, or spoken to the chatbot (who we call Claire). We must remember to take good care of our mental wellbeing and also keep calm and move on, in these tough times of the pandemic and lockdown
