Inspiration

There is a lack of representation of Indigenous women in the creative industries. We aim to shed light on this by creating a platform where Indigenous women can showcase their creativity and gain opportunities.

What it does

Kirra is a directory of creative work done by Indigenous Women and girls.

How we built it

  1. Brainstorm ideas using Figma
  2. Came together to unity on one goal
  3. Created Wireframes using Adobe XD
  4. Formulated ideas for the pitch
  5. Group members recording themselves pitching for Kirra
  6. Create and publish awareness website on Google Slides
  7. Edit and upload pitch video to YouTube

Challenges we ran into

The challenges we faced were mainly revolving around curating a theme and topic. It was difficult to put our skills to any of the topics we discussed. Refining our topics was difficult because we all had topics we were interested in, but after discussing we found a topic we all agreed would be impactful and needed our services.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team, we worked together really well, we combined all our different skill sets and delegated different parts of the project so that it was evenly distributed. Collaborating wasn't difficult because everyone was willing to listen and discuss their opinions, it was a democracy. Members of the group were willing to help when another member was in need and it made the project and experience positive and more memorable.

What we learned

Researching different Indigenous backgrounds and Indigenous women in the creative industry, we realized that the information provided was limited. We want to change that by providing a platform for these women to use, to create a community for artists, and to learn and inspire.

What's next for Kirra

Our future goals are to find Indigenous women artists to engage with, have them talk about their beliefs, their art, and their story. The environment we want Kirra to have is a supportive community where Indigenous women feel comfortable sharing any kind of art, while also inspiring the younger generations and older as well.
