Inspiration

I was inspired to create LemTycoon because I had noticed the fun experience of idle business simulations online such as CivClicker or the variety of idle cooking games. However, many games were mostly click-based and required little to no business knowledge. This aspect made me feel a need to develop a more interesting game where business decisions were actually important into the future. As a result, LemTycoon was released, an idle strategy game where you try to become rich running a lemonade stand, with challenges such as budget and taxes.

What it does

LemTycoon is a business strategy game where you are tasked with running a lemonade stand and growing it into a profitable business. You have to manage budget, buy ingredients, make the lemonade, manage prices automate some tasks, and adhere to taxes in order to properly beat the game. This game mimics real life, so you have to individually craft the lemonade with ingredients you can buy with your money. Later on in the game, you can unlock new recipes and ingredients to use, such as Pink Lemonade, Cookies, Cakes, and more! Additionally, there are a variety of upgrades you can purchase to unlock new items and speed up sales. This game is different from many idle/clicker games out there because it requires business decisions instead of just mindlessly clicking, and real life challenges such as taxes are present. 10+ updates have been posted so far, but more are on the way soon.

First, you buy ingredients using the base money given, and create lemonade. All items crafted will automatically sell after a given amount of time, simulating customers, which will give you money. This is essentially the core loop of the game, and you can purchase upgrades with money earned later.

How I built it

I built LemTycoon using pretty simple web languages such as HTML/CSS/JS over the course of about a month. Originally, I brainstormed with some mockup designs and ideas for recipes/upgrades. The overall functionality of the game wasn't too hard to built, though the web design was challenging. Additionally, I used localStorage to store user progress natively on their browser.

Challenges I ran into

Some major challenges I ran into were visual anda included CSS/HTML web design issues. Many small things had to be aligned at a certain point to look good, and manipulating the CSS to my goal was quite difficult. I spent almost half of my total developing time on the visual web design rather than the actual backend, which was quite simple.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud of implementing the backend and localStorage aspects of this game, since storing user data locally was a new concept for me at the time. Although it took some time to learn, I'm proud of how effective it turned out, making the game a whole lot more engaging to play. Additionally, the upgrade and item unlocking turned out quite well and I'm also proud of that.

What I learned

I learned how to use LocalStorage, many CSS functionalities to make a webpage look well, HTML pop-up modal for the taxation system, and deepened my JS DOM skills. This was a very good introduction project for me into deeper data storage applications in the future, where I plan to use databases.

What's next for LemTycoon

LemTycoon is a tycoon game where you are operating a lemonade stand. You create and then sell a variety of products to earn more money. Eventually, you can buuy upgrades, unlock new recipes, and become the worlds greatest lemonade stand! Instructions: Buy ingredients from the shop and use them to make youre first lemonade.It will automatically sell after a specific amount of time After you save up enough, buy upgrades so you can generate money faster. Additionally, unlock new lemonades and other recipes that generate more and more money. Be aware, however, that taxes and rent will try to steal your income. Tip: Try and make your lemonade when the prices are high- it changes every "day"(40 sec) - Look at the price board every day"
