Inspiration
We believe for good ideas and true innovation, you need human interaction, conflict, argument and debate - Margaret Heffernan
The purpose of disagreement is not victory or defeat, it is progress - Teal Swan
"When students participate in debate, they learn to study issues in depth and from perspectives, a skill I use everyday in the Senate." - Barack Obama
What it does
We leverage new technologies to make 1 on 1 debates more fun and easily accessible to the new generation.
How we built it
We use BotKit inside Facebook Messenger to connect debaters in real time based on common topics. Then by using an Angluar.JS broadcasting screen we gamify the experiences. While a debate takes place, other audience can upvote and like the arguments. The debater with the highest number of upvotes wins the round.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was time. Deciding on an idea, mapping product features out, and choosing the primary feature to exhibit in the demo took up quite a bit of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We formed the team and decided on the idea at the event. We are happy that we utilized the strength of each person on the team to produce our demo.
What we learned
We learned how to release a working prototype in 24hrs. We learned how to work as a team. None of us had participated in a hackathon so this in itself has been a great learning experience.
What's next for Let's Debate
It is a demo. We will leverage the feedback we will receive from the audience and the judges to build a proper prototype.
