Inspiration
Tiki is our team name, based on the last letters of each of our names. The idea of a mystery game where you link clues together seemed like a fun thing to go for so we came up with this Saw-esque character in tikiman and built the game around that
What it does
Tikiman's Trial is a short puzzle game reminiscent of old Sierra point and click adventure games. The player must explore the castle, collect the items, and decipher the clues hidden around the area to link it all together in one final puzzle
How we built it
We decided to use the Godot game engine for this project, an engine none of us were really familiar with. We knew from the start that it would be challenging to learn something new and complete a project all in one day, but we decided to give it a shot anyways and at least learn something from the experience even if we fell short
Challenges we ran into
Being unfamiliar with Godot, we made some mistakes early on that compounded as we got deeper into it. Without the proper time (or knowledge) to refactor properly, we had to work around these things and ended up making some pretty gnarly (but functional) code
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We did the best we could with the time we had, and game out the other side with some new tools. That's all you can really ask for
What we learned
A decent bit of Godot, how to work with scenes, link (haha) nodes, setup tilemaps, move around and interact with the environment, most of what you need to start making your own game
What's next for Team Tiki
Probably just back to weekly classes, half of us are first years and this event is exhausting so nothing major on the horizon
