Inspiration
Animals all around are being hunted and consumed to satisfy the wants of humans. And while not necessary, it’s being done a lot. A lot of animals have been completely wiped out due to the damage caused by us humans, and we don’t even realise or acknowledge it. We wanted to spread and create more empathy and knowledge towards the environment and wildlife out there.
What it does
It shows you a lot of animals and plants in danger on a map of the entire planet as pins. You can then get more information about them by tapping/clicking on pins and then you can even render a 3D model and watch it more closely in your surroundings with AR.
How we built it
We used HTML and CSS to make the home page, added the map using Leaflet, and the 3D models using EchoAR.
Challenges we ran into
Making 3D models of such rare and endangered animals was a difficult task for us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We actually managed to finish a basic product before the deadline. We came up with several ideas and then decided to go with this one which does turn out to be a very good and different idea. We just want people to be more caring towards the nature.
What we learned
We learnt about a lot of animals and plants that are endangered right now and might cease to exist if we’re not careful. We used Leaflet for the first time. We did a good collaborative job as a team which was also new for some members. And of course, we got better at managing time.
What's next for LivAR
We’re planning to add the following features -
- Displaying more information about the animals and their lives
- Adding a button to click photos with the 3D models and instantly share it on social platforms
- Adding more animals that are on the verge of extinction
- Embedding the models so that they’re rendered on the same page
- More filters for each animal
