Inspiration
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUqCWkPlLLc. The pandemic has taken a toll on both our mental and physical health. So it’s important to take just a sec and look away from our screens, to do something such as enjoy a bath, like the capybaras in the video.
What it does
The chrome extension allows its users to not only take a break from their screens, but also capture and display some precious moments in a gallery. Every 20 minutes, the user will receive a pop up with a prompt and a camera. They will be encouraged to complete the mission and take a picture. The pictures will then be saved to their gallery, which will appear every time a new chrome tab is opened.
How we built it
We used JavaScript, CSS and HTML. We weren’t too familiar with JS at first, but with the help of many tutorials (linked in our README!) we managed to pull off something.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into some issues with Firebase storage. At first we were thinking about using a database to store and fetch from. But then we encountered some issues and considered that security would be best so we decided to store the images locally.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making the chrome extension work!
What we learned
One of our team members doesn’t like capybaras, but he does enjoy relaxing! We also learned about image storage and privacy limitations of chrome extensions.
What's next for just a sec
We had some issues with image storage. We wanted to store them on a cloud storage database like Google Cloud initially, but weren’t able to configure in time, so we stored them locally instead. We would like to set it up in the future and allow friends to share pictures between their personal galleries, because who doesn’t like seeing their friends!
