We've built a backpack for cyclists that has built-in LED turn signals. The more visible the bike or motorcycle, the safer the ride.
Using conductive thread and LEDs sewn into the bag, we have created an arduino-based push button on the right and left straps to activate the turn signals sewn into the cyclists backpack. Additionally, we have hooked up an DHT22 temp and humidity sensor that is connected to the Internet of Things website Thingspeak.com via ESP8266. The data from the sensor is then accessed via the mobile website on the biker's handlebar-mounted Android dock. Other sensors can easily be added according what the user wishes to monitor during their ride.
The bicyclists using our backpack are safer because they're more visible motorists and also able customize their own "dashboard" using the Thingspeak mobile site on their handlebar mounted phone.
