Inspiration

We were inspired by the fact that students today are negligent towards the fact whether they are wearing or not wearing a mask. Also as USF student organization officers, we recognized that checking in to the events organized by the clubs was of utmost importance to the clubs as well.

Therefore, we built Maskateer!

How we built it

A mask detector that operated on the basis of image processing and vanilla JavaScript on the p5js.org code editor. We built it using Teachable Machine, which is an underrated Google experiment that is meant to make machine learning easily available to the common public. It makes concepts such as image processing, audio processing, and PoseNet a child's play.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges that we ran into were with regards to the CSS of the site and the way that the site looked but we're glad that we came over them to make something that we both are really proud of.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Along the way we learnt a lot: the new technologies of Teachable Machine and the way in which we assembled the code for the site on p5js.org code editor. Also, we got to hone our communication, teamworking, and creativity skills as we developed the site.

What's next for Maskateer

  • Include statistics to monitor the crowd better
  • UI improvements
  • more...
