Inspiration

As gamers, we understand how challenging it can be to make new friends who share the same interests. Our goal is to break those barriers and create a platform where people around the world can connect and bond over the games they love.

What it does

Match Found is a website designed to help gamers create meaningful connections. Users can set up a profile featuring their profile picture, username, favorite games, and a personal description. Through an intuitive search system, players can view others' player cards, identify games they have in common, and decide whether to match or skip.

A connection is formed only when two users mutually agree to match, ensuring genuine interest from both sides.

How we built it

The front end was developed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, resulting in a sleek and interactive UI with smooth animations for swiping player cards. The back end integrates JavaScript, SingleStore's API, and Steam's API to create a robust profile database and seamlessly link user game activity with their profiles.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was integrating and displaying data from Steam's API and SingleStore's database. Understanding the documentation for both APIs required persistent testing and troubleshooting across multiple servers. Through teamwork and determination, we successfully overcame these hurdles to bring our vision to life.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Search System: Developing an engaging, swipe-based player card system with satisfying animations for matching and skipping.
  • API Integration: Successfully displaying game-related data from Steam's API and organizing it into clear, user-friendly profiles.
  • Teamwork: Collaborating effectively to tackle tough technical challenges and achieve our goals together.

What we learned

This project taught us the importance of teamwork and persistence when exploring new technologies like APIs and databases. With this experience, we're better equipped to handle future challenges and approach projects with greater preparation.

What's next for Match Found

Our vision is to launch Match Found as a fully operational platform, enabling gamers worldwide to forge real friendships and connect over their shared love for gaming.
