Inspiration
Our inspiration for Matter is that our city and towns around the world do not efficiently keep public areas clean. Consumers are throwing away “trash” that can either be recycled or is even worth money.
The goal of this project is to disrupt the trash system and actually pay people for recycling items that are discarded every day.
What it does
Matter is a web based app that provides a market exchange (analogous to Ebay) for buyers and sellers of recyclable materials that are worth money such as cans, bottles, paper, etc.
Our users are people who are looking for unskilled jobs, business owners and residents who want a cleaner city, and everyday consumers who want money.

It was built in Django on Heroku

We envision using smart trash cans that can detect objects values and transmit the data across the market place.
In addition, a future prototype will have an augmented reality feature combined with artificial intelligence api’s to detect an object and then to superimpose a real time fair market value hovering over the object.
