Inspiration ~ Although we are excited to jumpstart our careers in technology, we are apprehensive of dorm food and potential unhealthy eating habits that we may develop in our university years. Additionally, eating out is not sustainable with our non-existent bank accounts :( Thus, we created Me Chef.
What it does ~ Me Chef allows busy college students and other individuals a convenient method of retrieving delicious meals. With many preference categories included, individuals can select vegetarian, pescatarian, low calorie, and many more options to find optimal meal recipes. We hope to encourage healthy eating in our local community coupled with delicious recipes.
How we built it ~ We utilized HTML/CSS/Procreate to develop the front-end portion of the website, headed by Beatrice, and Python open-source databases to develop the back-end portion of the website, headed by Anjali. Together, we used Flask & Javascript to connect the website.
Challenges we ran into ~ While we were able to create our respective portions of the project individually, we found the connection between backend and frontend difficult. Neither of us had prior experience with Javascript or Flask - which was difficult but interesting to learn on the go! Thankfully, our mentor Kurnal helped us solve some arising issues in our code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of ~ Together, we were able to visualize the development process of backend and frontend connection.
What's next for Me Chef ~ Hopefully, we will be able to develop a "favorites page", where individuals can paste their favorite recipes and pictures of the final result. Additionally, we hope to add a search bar for the individual to find any recipe they wish.
