Inspiration

Despite the large amount of medical data available, these datasets are often disorganized, cluttered, and hard to analyze. Doctors and researchers spend time and effort to help them find patterns, correlations, and insights quickly. That's where MEDGEM comes in. We wanted to empower them with an AI-powered solution that streamlines data cleaning, processing, and analysis to help them generate insightful hypotheses with ease.

What it does

MEDGEM leverages Gemini to automatically create Python scripts designed to clean, process, and analyze large datasets. The app identifies patterns, correlations, and outliers in the data, helping doctors and researchers uncover valuable insights that can guide their studies, generate new hypotheses, and inform decision-making.

How we built it

We started by integrating Gemini's capabilities to assist in creating Python scripts for data analysis.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was dealing with the complexity of medical data. Medical datasets can be noisy, incomplete, and come in various formats, making it tricky to build a flexible solution. Additionally, ensuring that the insights generated were accurate and actionable required implementing useable fail-safes and extra safety measures all while making sure the scripts produced were both robust and efficient.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of building an app that simplifies the process of data analysis, making it accessible to doctors and researchers without requiring deep programming knowledge. The fact that MEDGEM can automatically generate scripts for cleaning, processing, and analyzing datasets is a significant achievement. Seeing users get actionable insights from their data in minutes is incredibly rewarding.

What we learned

We learned a great deal about the importance of clean data and how crucial it is to have tools that help researchers focus on their work rather than struggle with data wrangling. We also gained experience working with large datasets, which often requires unique approaches to optimize performance and ensure accuracy.

What's next for MEDGEM

We plan to expand MEDGEM’s capabilities by adding more advanced data analysis features and incorporating machine learning models that can help doctors and researchers predict outcomes based on their data. We also aim to improve the app's integration with existing medical software and data repositories to streamline workflows even further. We hope to add integration for more unstructured data formats, such as medical imaging results.
