Inspiration

We know that tools exits that capture sensor data on patients that can be assessed and monitored by caregivers. We wanted to create a tool that included family members...to provide input into the system as well as get useful output that helps them manage and better understand the person they are working with that has dementia.

What it does

Our tool provides a user interface, mostly for use by family members but also by caregivers. It integrates quantitative data from sensors (e.g. motion sensors, sensors attached to individual devices (doors, beds, appliances etc.), sensors worn by the dementia sufferer (FitBit like devices)) with qualitative data from family members. Assessments of memory, behaviour, mobility, attitude, speach provided by family members are all considered valuable by the MemoryBoard system. The system uses complex internal algorithms to assess pattern changes based on the data, and provides feedback to family members on what to expect from the dementia patient, and helpful advice on how to handle general and specific behaviours. This data is useful to follow the disease progress at the individual level and may provide insight to the medical provider community.

It was a great experience and we came up with a great idea, but there was difficulty in reaching the functional application stage. In the future, I would start that part a week ahead of time and then use the Hackathon mentors to improve/refine the idea and application.
