Inspiration
The inspiration for our MindHabit website was students everywhere, especially at the University of Washington. The global impact of Covid-19 influenced the ability for students to learn effectively as various education systems transitioned from a virtual to in-person curriculum. As students, we understand the importance of balancing mental health and our education through the pandemic. MindHabit is our way of helping students, like us, achieve stability and success.
What it does
MindHabit has many features, including a workspace of study session timer and customizable to-do list, lo-fi music playlist, and mental health resources in America.
How we built it
To begin, we first made a figma prototype to plan out the page layout using UI/UX skills. Later, we coded the website on a platform called Replit. We created an accessible navigation bar, interactive study session timer, to-do list, lo-fi music playlist, and clickable links using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into was implementing a study session timer and to-do list with JavaScript. It was difficult to code a way where the to-do list can save the user's text input and appear under the to-do list. Furthermore, we encountered problems with the website layout due to different screen sizes. However, we overcome these challenges by trial and error
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of successfully completing our project in an online environment. Also, we were able to implement a function study session timer and to-do list. The lo-fi music playlist can be used throughout the website. Furthermore, the navigation bar is accessible for people to use.
What we learned
We gained more experience in coding with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We understood how to implement a Soundcloud playlist on our website using JavaScript. Also, we learned how to organize the structure of our code.
What's next for MindHabit
In the future, we can create more features like mood and habit tracking, partner directly with mental health organizations to provide better resources, and expand our target audience to educators and students of all age levels.
