Inspiration
Mental Healthcare in this country is inaccessible and inflexible for our daily needs. While therapy is a great tool for promoting mental health, there aren't enough providers to adequately understand and provide for everyone's specific needs, especially if they are low-income or from a marginalized community. Additionally, the cost of therapy is incredibly high and isn't covered by most insurance which makes it inaccessible to most. While the long-term solution is free healthcare and fewer barriers in education, we need other solutions in the interim to make sure people's mental health doesn't deteriorate.
Solution
Our solution is Mudlog an online journaling site that allows users to record and organize their diary entries while our AI analyzes and provides them with emotional insights based on their journals. A stylish complementary mood ring that changes colors to display user emotions is also included.
What it does
Mudlog consists of three main elements: the online journaling app, the AI analysis running in the background, and a stylish electrical mood-ring that changes colors depending on the feelings of the user.
Online journaling app: provides a slick and well-organized place where users can save or write their diaries to with the main UI imitating a calendar and the website having many quality-of-life features.
AI: uses semantic analysis to analyze the daily text entry from the user and output a probability distribution of emotions that they are feeling. The python backend also generates several plots and graphs which are then shown to the user to help them be more cognizant of emotions throughout their journaling experience.
MoodRing: is an LED ring that uses LEDs to display the daily emotional state of the user. The information on the ring is abstracted enough so that it acts both as a stylish fashion piece and as an intimate object.
