Inspiration

With the evident gender gap that has had a long history of being displayed in a plethora of industries, it is uncontestable that women suffer through a stigma. We therefore tried to gather closer insight on this matter by listening to personal experiences from women in the minority of their field and how they would feel empowered. Our research taught us that the main cause of women's intimidation in their careers is the lack of solidarity they express and empathy their provided by their managers and colleagues which ultimately triggered feelings of being misrepresented. With awareness on this perspective, we reached the conclusion that the world needs a tool to unite women under their common struggles and build a space for them to pursue their professional careers with ease; The world needs Netwink.

What it does

Netwink is a social media platform tailored towards empowering women from all industries in a remote space that they can access through their mobile and computer devices. We grant women the opportunities to engage in their field while being safely distanced from the stigma of falling under the minority. Whether it be by personal connections or community engagement, Netwink provides its users the simplest access to interact with women that understand their world and grant them a place to call home. We additionally assist high school and university students as they play an integral part of structuring our sisterhood by helping them become the future leaders of our generation. Users can navigate through a series of inspirational posts, locate their dream jobs with ease, interact with an AI program to make new connections, exchange messages with users, and gain the skills to enhance as a leader and spread an everlasting sisterhood to wider arenas. Users can also navigate small features such as studying the charts displayed in the profile and website prototypes and to get a stronger comprehension of their profile status and job searches. We do what it takes to build the comfort and confidence for a woman to recognize her capabilities and play her part in our ever advancing society.

How we built it

The tools used in the development of this application are split by its functions as a website and mobile project. We implemented Andriod, Alan AI, and Javascript to our mobile app and Flask, Firebase, HTML to our web app. The process began with a Figma prototype we made for both devices to give us a visualization of how to construct the coding equivalence. We additionally integrated a series of charts created by Microsoft Power BI to build the profile and job pages of the app. Upon completion of the code, we connected our work into a final model that coherently portrayed the flow of the app.

Challenges we ran into

The creation of this project held a series of setbacks that ultimately ended as a learning process. We firstly struggled in building certain features of the Figma prototype such as the pop up and website model. There were additional issues in our website as we faced several instances when the Firebase compiler had errors in running our code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Of the many milestones we reached, we were especially proud in managing to create a functioning application that aligned with our visuals from our prototypes. This achievement was additionally enhanced by the sheer fact of the project being completed in a mere twenty-four hour time constraint. While it led to an inevitably restless night, we collectively agreed that it was worth every effort through the significant success we reached.

What's next for Netwink

As women continue to strive under the umbrella of intimidation while pursuing their dream goals, we believe that Netwink will be the stimulator for keeping them on their feet and realizing their value in their fields. The world holds an endless opportunity for women to get involved and build their selves into the leaders they yearn to be. We hope that Netwink will be that push for them to escape their insecurities and realize the immense potentials they hold when brought as a community in a minoritized industry.
