Inspiration
We were inspired by the pertinent issue - COVID & megacities have drastically diminished the capacity of farms. Especially, Australia is facing a wave of agricultural inproductivity never been seen before due to COVID - 84% of jobs in agriculture are from seasonal or international workers.
Farming practices rely on the labour that stems from, in the majority of cases, international visitors and tourists. As such, with border closures, the world's agriculture industry has been left destitute. However, on the other hand - millions of people have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 and as such, Nurilo bridges the gap between work and employees, creating a mutually beneficial relationship for both parties involved.
What it does
Nurilo is the new link between producer and consumer. As a network of community-based farms, Nurilo aims to increase agricultural employment, particularly in under-resourced areas. Nurilo elevates the symbiosis of farms and their communities, boosting economic prosperity.
Through bridging the divide between producer and consumer creates, thus, a new circular system in which COVID affected jobs are in fact, restablished and a new long-term solution is created in which the forefront of our economy is once again situated in the driver of our daily lives - agriculture.
Nurilo is the novel way of connecting workplace and employees - with the interactive features it possesses, finding work on a farm is made easy. Farms simply advertise their farms and prospective employees are able to apply for a job based on the farm's location, jobs and produce sector. Our system offers a constant subscription fee of $150 per year in order to advertise their employment opporunties. This subscription fee acts to allow farms to access a broad audience as to garner employees. This alleviates the time wasted by simply trying to find employees by 'finding a needle in a haystack.'
Nurilo is the novel way to connect farms and employees - through interactive IoT technology, farms are able to submit their farms to our platform - for a subscription of $150 per annum, farms are able to access a diverse range of individuals and thus, garner employees.
How we built it
Nurilo was built using HTML, CSS, repl.it and Qoom.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges we ran into was integrating the maps as we had to procure API keys - however, in the end, our team solved the issue and is able to feature interactive maps. This furthermore, increases the user-interface experience of Nurilo and thus, we were very happy with the final product.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Integrating maps into our platform - this really increases Nurilo's user-interface, making it thus easy to apply for workplacement on farms.
What we learned
We learnt the use of API keys.
What's next for Nurilo
Expanding user interface to include sponsors - companies that are able to spend in order to support a farm.
