Inspiration
We wanted an easy way of accessing, monitoring, and managing our system without needing to be on-site or on the same network
What it does
OAT (Open Access Tool) is a simple tool that allows users to control and get information on off-site servers or computers. It returns information such as components, hard drive usage, memory usage, and any other peripheral devices such as Graphics cards to a simple-to-use website. It also allows for remote control of said devices through an external application, that relays screen information, keystrokes, mouse position, mouse clicks.
How we built it
We built the project using python and flask for the backend, while using next.js and typescript for the frontend
Challenges we ran into
One of the major challenges we ran into was being not being able to get the frontend to a completely finished state with the time we had, this led to major bugs and issues that were very challenging to overcome
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were proud of getting the project to the point were we can host it and actually use it in is crude form.
What we learned
We've learned that it takes a lot of effort even for something that seems simple and straight-forward. We have developed our skills further in web design and backend app development.
What's next for OAT(Open Access Tool)
Tweaking the remote access tools to work over open internet and simplifying it so you can run everything from the command line. There are also tweaks we would like to make to the web-app so it has more functionality.
