Our Project: Orvos
Inspiration
Inspired by one of our team members that has had numerous experiences as a patient within healthcare, we began to consider issues within healthcare. After discussing a podcast episode (Darknet Diaries!) we decided to create an app that targets both patients and doctors as the primary demographic in order to create an overall better user experience for both professionals and patients all around.
What it does
Orvos is a system that streamlines the Electronic Health Record (EHR) filing process as well as allows for a patient to be more involved with their treatment processes. At the same time Orvos aims to also target issues surrounding cybersecurity as digital formats of patient logs are a vulnerable target for ransomware attacks. In order to both alleviate the stressors related to healthcare, the system also prioritizes safety to facilitate an overarching system that functions well for all parties and is safe and secure.
How we built it
We started in a FigJam document to brainstorm issues we could solve, and decided to tackle alleviating EHR filing stress for healthcare professionals, patient involvement and treatment, as well as cybersecurity in the healthcare industry. We looked at competitors such as Maple, Tia Health, Sharepoint for healthcare, Referral MD, and others and found that none were an overall system that could help both healthcare providers and patients at the same time. After we brainstormed how our app could help and push forward technology used in healthcare, we created wireframes in Figma that eventually became high fidelity prototypes to demonstrate how our app works.
Challenges we ran into
As we are a whole team of design students, finding a topic and executing an idea that is both feasible and designed well is definitely a compromise we had to make throughout the hackathon. There was also a time constraint which meant that we couldn't create too many prototyped pages so we prioritized key user flows to demonstrate how our app could be effective in the context of healthcare.
What we learned
We definitely took on a tall order when trying to solve 3 of healthcare's biggest issues and trying to solve it in 24 hours was definitely a challenge. We learned a lot about how design and healthcare interacts and that it takes a lot to design for a field that has a lot of information to display and organize as well as understand all of the inner workings of the healthcare industry as a whole.
What's next for Orvos
Creating a full prototype with full pages for both the web app and mobile app and further research and refinement into the information structure and interface in order to best create a UI that can actually be feasible in a healthcare format.
