Exposition

On the way here, two of the developers wanted to rideshare because they were unable to reserve a spot on the bus to the hackathon. In this tragedy, they quickly shored up their intelligence to find an alternative. And that alternative was ridesharing since they did not know enough about the advanced public transportation

Rising Action

The two quickly arrived at a dilemma: what ridesharing service should they use? They had used Uber and Lyft before, but in their short experience, these services had huge fluctuations and choosing one over the other was a nerve-wracking experience. To address this potentially disastrous financial loss for scrappy college students on a budget, we have addressed this issue with our skills and abilities.

Climax

We have used our abilities to create the ultimate price-estimate comparison guide between all services provided by Uber and Lyft.

Disclaimer

Our app works but is fragile. However, limited testing on android(2 phones), iOS, Chrome on Windows, Chrome and Safari on Mac has all been suceessful. Just a tad slow because the Google Maps API struggles with the internet in Pauley Pavilion...

I worked on fetching data from uber's and lyft's APIs and layout the webpage with html and css (and bootstrap). The uber API was a hustle. The authentication it needed includes an Remote-access argument which if the domain not whitelisted on their developer program will not be granted authentication. So we actually did a little bit of backend stuff to acquire a valid address: "npm install -g local-web-server."
I also helped Eric debug his async functions (cuz I have multi-threading exp. lol)

I worked on frontend stuff and desperately avoided having a backend if possible. And it was.

I applied the Google Maps API and used it to not only embed a map into the HTML but also set markers from addresses and retrieve position data from that to send to the ridesharing APIs.
