Inspiration

Aura's aunt suffers from a visual impairment, right away she took lead and acklowedged that now, alongside the team of hackers. Could implement a system best designed to help her. Before the team even started brainstorming we all took a step back and heard what someone dealing with their independence taken away and listened to what could ensure safety but also provide the support system to get her leading the way down Oz

What it does

Oz allows airlines to obtain a 3D scan of airports, from the entrance to the gate of the airline and provides the optimal path for those visually impaired to get where they need to go. Our service allows users to get directions to Gates, Washrooms, Customer Service and more, ensuring a speedy and easy commute there.

How we built it

Backend: Python, Jupiter Notebook, Flask Frontend: React, HTML, CSS Scanner: LiDAR

Challenges we ran into

Taking the LiDAR scan and turning it into usable data. We were able to take the 3D model and compress it into 2D, as well turn it into a blueprint for a more refined image.

Mapping out our demo space, we ran into problems when it came to turning physical space into data we could manipulate, we turned our blueprints into nodes and were able to find the quickest route with connecting spaces.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our team has 3 first timers! And we pushed! Nothing can make us more proud of our team then ourselves, working hard, being able to communicate with each other willingly, as well as meshing so well together despite only having met at the Hackathon.

As well this was the first time any of us were working with 3D models, and leveraging the tech in order to make a difference

What we learned

The whole experience was very new for all of us. Ele, Aura, and Sarsha had their first hackathon experience, and working through problems, being able to publish so quickly, and looking for those certain corners we were able to cut to streamline the process that much more. As well Hamza came all the way from Canada! If it wasn't for the language barrier it was certainly with the new experiences and the new formats.

With the tech stakewise, we were able to leverage libraries that were able to empower our data analytics to new levels, UI/UX was a very collaborative process that allowed some of us who are more unfamiliar to really dive into it. Learning from our friends that had more experience :)

What's next for Oz

Our TTS feature needs work, so far we have only able to do going from A > B, given more time we would want to add more accessible features including distance from points, a haptic feature as well a cheap alternative tool to the app that the Airline would be able to loan to members that are unable to obtain the app
