Inspiration

Mental health and stability is a big challenge a lot of people face. Individuals often don't have a way to assess how their days are going or how much they are improving every day. This is mainly because they are not reflecting or have the necessary means of reflecting on how their days are going or the issues they deal with on a regular basis.

What it does

PalChecker is an interactive daily checker for tracking and maintaining a good lifestyle to balance mental health. It gives the user a way to reflect on their day by posing questions about it, which has been shown to increase emotional control—a crucial skill for managing stress, anxiety, and depression. The user creates a feeling of routine in their life by responding to the question every day, which has been shown to lessen anxiety and other issues. The score that the website offers gives the user a way to assess how their days are going and gives them motivation to improve.

How we built it

We tried to adopt the agile methodology to develop this project. Initially we brainstormed ways to develop and added it to our product backlog. Then each one of us decided to take a task from the backlog and work on/ develop it based on our skills. Finally after each one of us was done we integrated the components together to form the final product and tested it on a call together to make sure everything is done seamlessly.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we faced was deciding how to store the days the user checks in into the calendar. We decided to use a simple IndexedDB to store these values and access the values whenever we display the calendar.

Another challenge we faced was how to make the UI as smooth and basic as possible to avoid complications. We solved this problem as well by making multiple wireframes before starting the design and development.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have worked well together as a team to develop something meaningful.

What's next for PalChecker

We plan on researching more into this issue and create a forum where people can check on each other everyday to create a lively community. Additionally we plan on furthering our research to make stronger and more reliable predictions by collaborating with renowned mental health institutes.
