Inspiration
We grew up watching Courage the Cowardly Dog, where Courage’s CRT computer felt like a snarky, wise, and slightly spooky oracle. That green glow, the scanlines, the low-resolution charm — it stuck with us. So when the theme was Blast from the Past, we knew what we had to do: Recreate Courage's CRT computer as a real-time chat interface. And maybe give it a second life — to talk again, but this time, with AI.
What it does
basically chatgpt does but in a fun and sarcastic way- the way courage's computer was
How we built it
We used Next.js 15 with the App Router and TypeScript on the frontend, styled using SCSS for full control over the CRT visual effects — including glow, scanlines, and screen bulge. The backend was built with Django, handling routing and user state. For the AI responses, we integrated Gemini APIs, giving our terminal its eerie, interactive voice.
Challenges we ran into
depolyment issues, css fixing was a great headache, time constraints
Accomplishments that we're proud of
people instantly recognized the reference. created a fully functional app that feels like it shouldn’t belong in 2025. built and styled the entire interface in under 48 hours without compromising on polish or weirdness.
What we learned
we learnt how to brainstorm design and implement a kick ass idea in less than 48 hours
What's next for paranormaliser
idk maybe play around with the ui and make it more flexible like process images and all?
