Inspiration

The inspiration for PawTracker came from the growing need to reunite lost pets with their owners quickly and efficiently. With the rise of lost pets and the emotional toll it takes on both pets and their families, we wanted to create a solution that could use cutting-edge technology to help bring pets home faster.

What it does

PawTracker leverages RFID technology to track and identify missing pets. By scanning RFID tags attached to pets, our system can instantly provide information about the pet’s location and status, making it easier for owners and rescuers to reunite with their lost companions.

How we built it

We built PawTracker by integrating AI for processing pet data and matching RFID tag information, using a Supabase backend to store and retrieve pet details. The front end is built with React, offering a user-friendly dashboard where owners can track their pets, update their status, and add new pets. The system also uses real-time data for updates on lost, found, or safe pets.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we encountered was syncing real-time RFID data with the platform, ensuring accurate tracking and updates for lost pets. We also had to work through challenges in building an intuitive interface that could handle a large volume of pet data without overwhelming the user.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the seamless integration of RFID technology with our AI-driven platform, which allows users to quickly identify and track pets. Additionally, our dashboard’s ease of use, paired with the ability to handle real-time pet updates, is a significant accomplishment.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned how to integrate hardware like RFID systems with cloud-based backends and AI for real-time data processing. We also gained insights into building scalable web applications that are both functional and user-friendly, especially in the context of sensitive, real-time data.

What's next for PawTracker

In the future, we plan to expand PawTracker by incorporating more advanced features, such as geofencing alerts for lost pets, AI-powered image recognition for pet identification, and broader geographic coverage. We’re also exploring partnerships with shelters and pet services to expand the reach and effectiveness of the platform.
