Inspiration
As students, we’re constantly checking flyers to plan our meals. But scrolling through every single flyer in Montreal, one by one, got old fast. So we thought, why not build something smarter? That spark evolved into a website that compares select grocery stores and instantly provides a recipe tailored to what’s on sale.
What it does
Peas & Picks uses real flyer data to generate recipes based on discounted ingredients. It cuts your search time by 4x, helping you cook smarter, cheaper, and faster.
How we built it
Python, HTML, CSS, Flask based server hosted on Herouku
Challenges we ran into
The IGA grocery site came armed with surprisingly intense cybersecurity, meaning we had to get creative. Integrating our scraping pipeline with Heroku added another layer of difficulty, but we powered through.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully implementing vegan and vegetarian recipe filtering, animating spinning peas (a must-have), and levelling up our web-scraping skills!
What we learned
Web scraping fundamentals, Flask development, and the art of clean, user-friendly web design.
What's next for Peas & Picks
We would like to expand to more grocery stores, implement a geolocation feature, launch a mobile app, compare prices of similar items across stores, and introduce a “what’s in your fridge” filter to create the perfect meal from what you already have.
