Inspiration

Empirical research states that people with high social anxiety show less confidence than people with lower social anxiety (Stopa et al., 2010). pictureU wants to help people overcome their internal struggles and improve what matters to them.

What it does

pictureU is a platform that allows users to choose a time-based challenge; 25, 64, or 100 days. Throughout this period, pictureU will send the user a notification in the morning prompting a daily micro task that will help the user reach their goals. Subsequently, every night the application will prompt the user to optionally fill in a questionnaire for self reflection. These results will appear in statistical graphs and a visual calendar with colours indicating the changes in daily reflections throughout the month.

Along the course of a challenge, pictureU will keep track of the amount of days the user has completed the daily prompts. This will slowly reveal an image over time. These images are collectable and stored in your gallery for an incentivized fun and healthy growth.

How we built it

pictureU is mainly a prototyped application using Figma's expansive features and our creative UI and UX minds.

Challenges we ran into

The team spent a considerable amount of time brainstorming the idea of pictureU. It was difficult to determine the area of self-improvement that we wanted to focus on, as there are simply so many. However, once we decided on the topic of confidence and social aspects, this begged the questions of "what helps one overcome confidence?" and "what would we have liked as our younger selves?". These can get quite psychological and philosophical which made it difficult to grasp onto a technical solution.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of our UI and UX. We are proud of how the interface turned out and how it matches with what pictureU wants to project to the world.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the extensive functionality Figma that we never knew existed beforehand, such as getting comfortable with variables and components, as well as prototyping our application through Figma.

What's next for pictureU

For new features, pictureU would love to include more topics of self-improvement to expand to a wider audience and aid more people become better versions of themselves. We would also love for pictureU to become a fully functional mobile application one day too!
