Inspiration
The idea for Plaudit was born when one of our team members got distracted while trying to brainstorm for the hackathon, by browsing around a popular residential real estate app. The inspiration was found in their boredom as our team member wondered why there weren't more interesting tools to analyze properties.
What it does
Plaudit uses smart metrics and AI insights to give prospective commercial real estate buyers an overview of a property they are interested in. Users can input and address, and will receive scores in the Accessibility, Competitiveness, and Attractiveness categories based on our data. We also have ChatGPT integration that will provide the user with AI insights and analysis of our scores.
How we built it
We used React framework and Node.js to create our website. Our data was collected using Inrix on-street parking, off-street parking, and trade trips APIs, as well as Google Maps geocoding and Google Places APIs. We also used ChatGPT integration to provide real-time analysis of our data and generate reports for the user.
Challenges we ran into
Having started off with a very ambitious project, we struggled to narrow down our long list of ideas into a hackathon-sized project. It was also a challenge to realize the ideas we did decide on, because many members of our group were participating in their first hackathon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite our challenges, managing to convert our ideas into a concrete product was a major accomplishment for our team. We knew that our ideas would be the strongest point in our design process, so actually realizing them was a big source of pride.
What we learned
In addition to gaining invaluable experience with new technical skills, our team learned a lot about the development process and what goes into a full-stack development project such as this. Especially because this was the first hackathon for most of our members, we all learned a great deal about how to apply skills of all kinds to a real-world project.
What's next for Plaudit
Our team came up with far too many ideas for functionality to implement within 24 hours, meaning we had to narrow the scope of our project significantly. However, this means that we already have ideas for what to add in the future. If we continue pursuing the Plaudit project, we plan to add metrics for car traffic, foot traffic, and census datasets, as well as improvements to our analysis and display of data.
