Inspiration

In this Age of Information, the Internet possesses undeniable power in shaping lives around the globe. Each post has the ability to make an impact, but we often struggle to find the right words to match each photo. That's why we created Post Up!, an app designed generate just the right caption for any picture you desire.

What it does

With Post Up!, the user has the ability to upload a photo of their choice, and with just a few easy clicks, a caption will automatically be generated for direct use or inspiration!

How we built it

The primary software we used in creating the app was Android Studio. We used the Google Vision API to scan images and label objects. Using those labels, we were able to use the Paper Quotes API to generate a quote for a caption for a picture.

Challenges we ran into

This app required many new skills our team was not used to, so it was difficult to code and debug the errors we faced. The Google Vision API is not documented well and we spent hours trying to figure out the authentication process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we were able to create a clean-looking, easy-to-navigate app that accomplishes what we aim to do, despite being relatively unfamiliar with the tools during the start of the project.

What we learned

Because this project contained many unknown elements, our team was able to learn a lot about working with Android Studio, utilizing JSON, and Google Vision API.

What's next for PostUp!?

We here on the Post Up! Development Team recognize the importance of innovating and keeping up with technological advancements, so we have a lot of ideas on how to improve this prototype! For example, we aim to expand the app's abilities to include generating hashtags and posting to other social media sites directly from the app, and in the future, we may include features that help automatically edit a photo to better match your feed.
