Inspiration and what it does

I understand that medical conditions for some people can already be a pain in their daily life. What doesn't make it better is when you have to be extra cautious while shopping since some ingredients may have an adverse reaction due to your medical condition.

That’s why I created CareScan. Just hold your camera to the ingredients list of the product and we'll tell you if it's okay to buy.

How it works

When you scan the ingredient list of the product the app uses computer vision to parse out the ingredients and uses an algorithm uses ai to search the web to find the overall sentiment about the product and its effects on your medical condition. Depending on this sentiment, the different ingredients are highlighted using augmented reality in real-time, the ingredients that are bad for you are highlighted red and the goods ones are highlighted green. The app processes the entire analysis and gives the product a score out of 100, to make it easy for the user to compare between products.

What I learned and some improvements

I've learned a lot about app design and what does and doesn't make a good-looking app. This project has definitely inspired me to look more into the entire process of app development! Something that will eventually need to be added to the app is a way to take into account how much of a specific ingredient is being used because right now, the app cannot tell the difference between an ingredient that is 99% of a product and 1% of a product.
