Inspiration
My sister inspired me. She had a really time throughout her school and went through a bad time period of depression. I also realized how stressed and sad I constantly was. Honestly, building the website was a coping mechanism for me, but I feel like what's included could help a lot more youth that is in a position of sadness, anxiety, or stress.
What it does
This website is to create a safe(zen) space for youth and teens to go to with many different pages to help if you're feeling sad, angry, anxious, stressed, or depressed. It's mostly just the front end with links to sites.
Challenges we ran into
I think coming up with the design of making it aesthetically pleasing was hard, I wanted it to be since it was a help site, to look nice, and at first, everything looked chunky and unhinged. Another big thing was having someone who was a qualified counselor join the site. I then found out that my Mom's friend had a degree in psychiatry, and could help we that, which invested me in the project even more.
What we learned
While I didn't use what I learned in the hackathon in the project, the hackathon had a lot of cool and useful workshops. Through them, I learned a lot of HTML coding which I got to practice on.
What's next for Project Zen
If I win a .xyz URL link, then I may make it an actual website instead of being supported on google sites, so many people can use it, and it could be more useful for youth around the world like it's intended
