I think Devpost hackathons can be better by adding pulse check. Like requiring participants to check-in their progress during the hacking period. Making sure participants are committed and on track.

I actually got this from ETHGlobal Hackathon.

What it does

To add check-in feature.

How we built it

Just require participants to do check-in in certain interval during the hacking period. And each check-in should expire like in 1 day.

Challenges we ran into

Sometimes projects tend to become too rushing in the last few days because too many slack in the front half during hackathon.

What we learned

Add compulsory check-ins to manage schedule and time.

What problems it solve

Hackathon projects tend to rush in last hours if time is not properly managed, this feature could helps participants to keep their progress on track and made aware of the time constrain.

This feature also helps hackathon organisers to easily filter out cheating projects (which had completed before the hack starts) and put less weighting on non-completing projects to save judging time as judgers usually need to screen a lot of projects within 1 day.

What's next for PulseCheck

The check-ins can act as bonus if participants successfully complete all the check-ins.
