Inspiration 😊
There are so many incredible queer artists out there who don’t get enough recognition. So we decided to make a compilation of many great ones for anyone to enjoy and a way to recommend songs so people can discover their new favourite artist easily.
What it does 👀
- The website is built to be easy to navigate, search for your favourite songs, and browse through the list of songs.
- The back-end of Queerify is a Python ML model that can recommend the user some songs based on their Spotify history.
How we built it 🔨
- We built the front-end using HTML and CSS in Replit.
- The back-end was built using the Spotify API, Python and Jupyter Notebook.
Challenges we ran into 🧑💻
There were some formatting problems on the front-end side of things, making the process take longer than it should have. In addition, we wanted to include a couple more animations but realized that they did not look the best and were too distracting, so we took them out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of 🙌
- The website looks pretty good, especially with the gradient rainbow. We are also proud of the fact that we were able to include so many different queer artists from many different backgrounds and orientations.
What we learned 🚀
- We learned more about formatting HTML elements, how to make some more complex gradient colours, as well as how to make animations in CSS.
- We also learned how to connect the app with the Spotify API and use its functionality within the app.
What's next for Queerify 🥳
- We hope to make a functioning search bar that can also make recommendations based on previous searches, similar to any common search engine today.
- We hope to expand the website and dataset to include more artists and short biographies of all artists, with pictures of them if possible.
- We also plan on to deploy the app to the domain we bought from Domain.com - queerifywith.tech
