Inspiration
The game was inspired by Scanner Sombre by Introversion Software. We wanted to extend it into a multiplayer game and FPS.
What it does
It's a first person shooter, where you can't see except through Lidar, allowing you to also explore the map. You can also play with your friends on a local network.
How we built it
We built it with Godot. This was our first day using Godot.
Challenges we ran into
- Godot is a bit awkward to solve merge conflicts with (much better than Unity though!)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We built an actual working multiplayer game :D
- Actually learned Godot
- We did a little 2-hour trip to durham cathedral, ending up on a narrow mud path between a deep river and sheer cliff, without any casualties (cue LOTR theme song). 11/10 side quest
What we learned
- Godot is actually like really awesome, 10/10.
What's next for Radil Ranger
- Getting a bigger computer
- Particle-based lidar scan points instead of a million spheres
- More fluid movement/shooting mechanics
Table Number
Moon 22
Built With
