Inspiration

2020 has been a stressful year.The threat of nuclear war, the irreparable recession, the everlasting pandemic are only some of the multitude of major events that have echoed throughout the world.

As a team, we realized that one of the terminal impacts of 2020 is a mountain of stress that has dawned over us. Thus, we looked at a multitude of ways that we personally attack stress in our day to day lives.

Our solution? Pure brilliancy. Keyboard smashing.

Our team came to a consensus that after a long day of work and hard times, smashing the keyboard provides us great mental reassurance. It allows us to translate our stress and problems unto our 10 dollar keyboards. This led us to the idea of making a revolutionary technological application that wires our brain to reward keyboard smashing.

What it does

Rage Board rewards users points when they smash their keyboard and keeps track, through several mediums, of the magnitude of their smashing.

How we built it

Rage Board was crafted with fundamental HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Accomplishments

As a team, we are proud that everyone collaborated and parallelized tasks accordingly.

I worked on the responsive keyboard element and the front-end design. I also collaborated with my teammates to ensure that the keyboard input is handled properly.

Ashley Hart
I worked on the front-end: this was my very first exposure to front-end and web-development as a whole. I started with learning the pure fundamentals of HTML and CSS and from there developed the entire skeleton of our website. I chose a gradient look to the website in which I cross-applied in the background, title, about page, and buttons. Additionally, I was responsible for readjusting several Javascript elements to fit within our desired margins and maintain our "look".

Ryan Ata
I worked on the back end, where I calculated how many characters were inputted per minute on average. I changed the background of the website to change based on said average. I have the beginnings of the heat map set up using arrays that contain the characters inputted, and how many times each were character was inputted. Overall, I learned a lot from this experience, including the depths of jQuery, how multi-dimensional arrays work in JS, and more about HTML and CSS.

I worked on the back-end, it was my first time using Javascript/JQuery. I calculated time elapsed to get characters per minute, shake function, background music, and point system.
