Inspiration
We're all doing our part, and stopping the spread by staying at home. But being cooped up inside for more than half a year now must be driving us all stir-crazy, right? So what better way to fix this by pictures of PETS! We created a social media app only for pets. Share pictures of your pets, and rate others' pets. We're bringing you the pets!
What it does
User accounts are associated with Google/Facebook login. Then, they are directed to a home feed which shows the recent posts. Users can then send/upload their own pet pictures, or rate other people's pet pictures.
How I built it
A lot of no sleep, android studio and firepost.
Challenges I ran into
This is the first android app that Amy has built, and Tram's first experience with fragments, recyclerview and actually connecting the backend to front end. We were very fortunate to have Ali who is very experienced, and we learned a lot from him.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Despite only having 12 hours, we have built a functioning app, with most of the features that we had originally planned for.
What I learned
Stackoverflow is your best friend! How to build android apps, how to use fragments successfully, how to use recyclerview, how to read and write data to and from Firepost.
What's next for RateMyPet
To ensure that RateMyPet only brings you the best of doggos and the like, we would like to implement a checker to make sure that images uploaded by the user is a pet. This can be achieved by utilizing Deep Convolutional Neural Networks and fast.ai library. We also ran out of time and couldnt add the ratings feature. But eh, close enough
