Inspiration

We’ve seen social isolation rates rising, especially in the digital age. While people are connected online, they often feel disconnected in real life. We wanted to create something that helps people break that barrier—ReConnectify is our effort to bring people together around meaningful outdoor and sustainability-driven activities.

What it does

ReConnectify is a cross-platform mobile app that tackles social isolation by helping users: >Discover nearby events focused on environmental sustainability or outdoor engagement >Join events and chat with fellow attendees >Earn points for attending events, which can be redeemed for coupons or brand rewards >View a leaderboard showing top participants based on earned points >The idea is to create real-world interactions through shared interests and community-driven action.

How we built it

We used a modern tech stack to bring ReConnectify to life: >React Native: For building a responsive, cross-platform mobile app >JavaScript & TypeScript: For frontend logic and structure >MongoDB: As our NoSQL database to store event details, user points, and participation data The app consists of multiple screens, including the homepage with 6 featured events, an event detail screen with a join button and participant count, a group chat screen for attendees of similar event, and a leaderboard.

Challenges we ran into

We initially planned to use MongoDB to fetch the list of members attending each event. While we successfully fetched and displayed event details from the database, we failed to retrieve real-time member data and reflect live updates for attendees. Despite this, we found workarounds and kept progressing with other features.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re genuinely proud of how smooth and visually appealing the UI turned out. The app has clean transitions, intuitive navigation, and interactive features. Most importantly, we managed to implement nearly all of the core functionality we envisioned at the start of the project.

What we learned

This project gave us hands-on experience with: Integrating MongoDB with a cross-platform frontend Building user-friendly interfaces in React Native Managing data and UI flow in real-time applications Exploring multiple technologies and how they work together in a mobile development pipeline

What's next for ReConnectify

We’re not stopping here. Though the current version is slightly incomplete, we are planning to turn ReConnectify into a full-scale social platform. We want to make it a go-to solution for anyone looking to socialize, discover nearby community events, and build connections—especially for those who don’t know where to start and where to look for.
