Inspiration

5% of adults, aged 18 or older, experience a mental illness in any one year. That’s 43.8 million people experiencing hardships that interfere with their everyday lives. This statistic is one of many that inspired Resource Express. This was built with figma, javascript, and react. People suffer from many issues from self-harm to suicidal thoughts to addictions to abusive relationship. Some of these issues can cause PTSD and those people need support but may be afraid to seek help. People may endure bad news and need motivation to keep going. Something bad may happen unexpected and you need to find a clinic or hospital or something near you. Resource Express is designed to be able to help those people whether they are in the U.S. or Outside of the U.S.

What it does

Our app has many functions

  • Locate Resources (Clinics, Hospitals, Urgent Care, Police Stations, Fire Stations) near you
  • List of Hotline Numbers for Health Issues and Support (Self-Harm, Eating Disorders, Drug Addiction, Suicidal Tendencies, Cancer, Sexual Assault, etc.)
  • Chat Support Feature Where You Can Connect with Other Users of the App
  • Motivational Sayings to Get You Through a Tough Time or Rough Day

How we built it

  • The Working Prototype was Built with Figma
  • The Web Version of the App was Built with React, Javascript (JS), Syntactically Awesome StyleSheets stylesheet language (SCSS), and JSON
  • The Mobile Version of the App will be built with Android Studio in the Java Language

(We have not yet finished coding the whole web version of the app as we did not have enough time and we have yet to start the mobile version but it will be built with those tools and languages)

Challenges we ran into

  • Spending too much time on certain aspects of the project
  • Figuring out how to use tools such as Figma, Android Studio, and how to create a react app

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Creating a Full Working Prototype (We are proud of this accomplishments because even though we could not finish creating the actual web version and mobile version of the app. We have a working prototype that shows what the app will look like and its functionality.)
  • Design of App is Basic and Easy to Navigate
  • Overcoming The Challenges Faced While Creating It

What we learned

We learned a lot about Figma and React as well as Android Studio

What's next for Resource Express

  • A Help Button to Click in Emergencies That Will Call 911
  • Adding More Hotline Numbers for Other Issues such as Epilepsy and Anxiety
  • Finish Coding the Web Version of the App including Adding Database for When People Login and Signup
  • Starting and Finishing Coding of the Mobile Version of App with Android Studio
