Inspiration
The problem faced by daily commuters going to college or the office is that it takes a huge chunk of their money in transportation and they also don't want to bear the expenses to own a bike. Also, on the other hand, there are many such vehicles that are unused and just parked at homes.
Therefore, we got an idea to build an app that helps needy people rent such unused vehicles at a very minimal cost. Which they can use as per their convenience and return.
What it does
Our app bridges two-wheelers owners who are ready to rent out their vehicles with users who want to rent two-wheelers at affordable rates. The user has to register on our app as a rider and he gets the list of the nearest bikes available for rent. Also, people who are willing to rent out their machines can sign up on the app as hosts and earn from it. Therefore it is an app completely managed by the people for the people.
How we built it
Using Figma we designed UI, then we used React Native for the front end, and we used different API in calling different functions. The backend is being built using JAVA.
Challenges we ran into
This was our very first hack-a-thon. Therefore none of us had enough knowledge about competing in a hack-a-thon and building a project in a very short duration. It was very confusing to select the technologies for building this project and learn different frameworks in a very short time. We had just hands-on experience in development and this app had complex functions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we solved a real-life problem and we build a team remotely with good coordination. It was really a challenge to build a design and code the front end with such little initial knowledge, but gave in effort and managed to do it. This was our very first app built from our own idea and that's really a great experience for us to achieve this performing as a team.
What we learned
It was our first time working with people who we had not known before and communicating and gaining knowledge from each other's experiences. We learned how to co-ordinate in a team properly and how to manage a project efficiently within a given deadline
We also learned skills like Figma for designing the UI/UX as well as REACT NATIVE for building a front-end, and TWILIO API we are also in process of actively learning the back-end as our documentation is ready with that which will be implemented in due course of time. We thank Harnoor Bhaia for organizing this hack-a-thon it really helped us all to learn a lot.
What's next for Riderrr.
Firstly we are building the back-end which is incomplete as of now as well as currently, the app is only ready for the rider not for the host we are in process of designing the host-centric App. The UI for that is already been made as we are writing this and we will also like to take our idea to next level. Maybe even start our very start-up on this.
