Inspiration
We wanted to make a way to learn how to manage money effectively for kids, and resemble real life scenarios while still matching some semblance of fantasy to appeal to kids.
What it does
The game allows you to allocate the currency of this game, "rocks," to different areas that are relevant to real life, such as entertainment, necessities, (clothing, groceries, etc), emergency funds, and savings.
How we built it
We built this purely using React.js
Challenges we ran into
We wanted this game to be interactive with kids, so we had to create our own currency and our own set of scenarios which would be interesting for kids to run into.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the fact that we got this game to be pretty interactive to work with, and got a lot of people interested in playing.
What we learned
We learned that we should probably allocate our resources better to developing separate parts of the website, as there were some bottlenecks that we ran into because one member was doing something that other tasks depended on, which slowed down progress quite a bit
What's next for Rock Star
The next step is to maybe make a version for young adults, which uses actual USD and introduces more complexity to the different scenarios that could happen.
