SagaHalla - Forging the Future of Decentralized Cooperation
Inspiration
SagaHalla draws its inspiration from the timeless values of ancient Norse mythology—resilience, shared growth, and community stewardship. These principles, when combined with the power of modern blockchain technology, form the foundation of our vision: to create a platform real-world projects by providing a balanced governance structure that respects both financial contributions and labor-based contributions.
What It Does
The token system of SagaHalla facilitate community support, cooperative member contribution management and tracking of both labor and financial contributions. The token minting process is designed around the Proof of Utility (PoU) mechanism, which ties token issuance directly to real-world contributions and project achievements. This approach ensures that tokens have value beyond market speculation, reflecting the actual utility generated by cooperative members through both financial and labor contributions, and the fair value perceived from the community tied to the transparency of the token system.
These features are separated by a collection of DApps focused on the user experience:
Victory Exchange DApp Victory Exchange serves as the primary platform for token transactions within the SagaHalla ecosystem, allowing members to purchase and exchange governance and utility tokens that facilitate project funding and cooperative engagement.
MANA DApp The MANA DApp is the core governance hub of the SagaHalla cooperative. Members can participate in decision-making processes, contribute to community projects, and leverage their token holdings to influence cooperative directions. The mana token is an ERC20 token that tracks labor input value. It may be liquidated as payment for labor inputs or contributed to the cooperative to gain governance rights.
The MANA token and ERC1400 token envisioned to be backed by Bitcoin collateral, empowers users with full governance rights and represents fully backed financial contributions. Contributions in the cooperative follow a path from valued labor inputs (mana ERC20), contributed labor capital (mana ERC1400), to ultimately fully backed financial contributions (MANA ERC1400).
With a focus on sustainable growth, SagaHalla aims to balance community, member, and investor interests with cooperative values, creating a secure foundation for sustainable innovation. This cooperative structure not only provides transparency in decision-making but also in utility generation in a compliant and decentralized manner within a framework that can be adopted by real-world entities such as other cooperatives, non-profits, corporations, or other legal entities that wish to track real-world utility and value generation
Architecture
The token system makes use of both the Near protocol and the Aurora network. The governance frameworks is an extension of the Sputnik DAO framework. It adds new proposal definitions that include project budgets, project plans and project execution data. An immutable NFT on Near is utilized as a the governance token of Sputnik DAO. Two voting types are utilized for the framework. The Governance Vote type utlizes a token based voting power calculation that is weighted based on the relative aggregate token value of the members Mana holdings (mana + MANA) that have been contributed. A new Project Vote type utilzes a project plan weighted power where the weighting of the anticipated mana allocations derived from the users' labor inputs compared to other team members is adopted to accurately and locally allocate voting power where the member is engaged.
Challenges I Ran Into
The concept of chain abstraction drove the design decisions and ambition to utilize the particular strengths of the Near protocol to leverage the flexibility and value in the ethereum ecosystem through the Aurora network. This strong a new area for our team and we ran out of time to implement a relayer to effective faciliate the data transfers needed in our design requirements. So there is plenty to do in the next hackathon. We also ran out of time in integrating our smart contracts for the tokens into a common treasury contract that could be more easily integreated with the front end of our DApps.
While we don't regret our ambitious goals we recognized that we don't have an fully integrated submission but a strong start in implementation of a potntially highly impactful platform. he
Accomplishments That I'm Proud Of
I’m proud of the detailed planning and design that have gone into our framework. The vision and design have made it possible to communicate very complex design goals and requirements for young developers. The progress we’ve made in the trademarking and patenting of our unique mechanisms is a significant milestone. Additionally, the careful integration of blockchain-based mechanisms to ensure transparency is something I’m particularly proud of, as it sets SagaHalla apart from many blockchain projects.
What I Learned
Through this journey, I’ve learned the importance of aligning technical design with philosophical values. Building a decentralized platform that is both innovative and secure requires not just technical expertise but also a deep understanding of the community it serves. The process has also highlighted the need for rigorous planning and legal protections, such as trademarking and patenting, to safeguard the platform’s unique design and innovations.
What's Next for SagaHalla
Our next focus will be on integrating a relayer on our server to facilitate cross chain abstractions to power our member contribution management and governance systems which requires complex tracking. Then we can focus on integrating and building out the MANA and VicTory DApps and prepare for the next phase of managing the collateralization process.
