Inspiration
The global healthcare community faces challenges in data transparency, censorship, and collaboration across borders. Traditional medical forums often lack trust, security, and incentives for meaningful contributions. Inspired by the need for a decentralized, censorship-resistant, and globally accessible platform, SANATORIUM was born—to empower medical professionals, researchers, and patients through blockchain technology.
What it does
SANATORIUM is a decentralized medical forum built on the Solana blockchain that enables:
- Secure and anonymous discussions among healthcare professionals and patients.
- Tokenized incentives for verified contributions, peer reviews, and community moderation.
- Immutable medical knowledge sharing, ensuring that valuable insights are never lost or altered.
- Smart contract-based reputation system to highlight trusted contributors.
- Multilingual support for global accessibility.
How we built it
- Frontend: Built using React and TailwindCSS for a responsive, user-friendly interface.
- Backend: Powered by Solana smart contracts using Anchor framework to handle user authentication, post creation, and reward distribution.
- IPFS: Used for decentralized storage of forum content and media.
- Wallet Integration: Phantom and Solflare wallets integrated for seamless login and transactions.
- Moderation: Community-driven moderation system with staking and slashing mechanisms to ensure quality control.
Challenges we ran into
- Balancing anonymity with accountability: Ensuring users can remain anonymous while still building a trustworthy reputation.
- Smart contract complexity: Designing efficient and secure contracts for post validation, voting, and rewards.
- Scalability: Managing large volumes of medical data and discussions without compromising performance.
- User onboarding: Making blockchain interactions intuitive for non-technical users, especially healthcare professionals.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully deployed a fully functional decentralized forum on Solana.
- Built a working prototype of the reputation and reward system.
- Created a seamless user experience with wallet-based login and content posting.
- Fostered early engagement from medical professionals during testing.
What we learned
- Blockchain can be a powerful tool for trust and transparency in sensitive fields like healthcare.
- Incentivization models must be carefully designed to avoid spam and ensure quality.
- Community governance is essential for long-term sustainability and fairness.
- UX is critical—especially when introducing Web3 tools to Web2-native users.
What's next for SANATORIUM
- Launch a beta program with real healthcare professionals and researchers.
- Implement AI moderation tools to assist community moderators.
- Expand multilingual support and accessibility features.
- Integrate with medical databases and journals for verified content sourcing.
- Develop a mobile app for broader reach and usability.
- Explore DAO governance for community-led evolution of the platform.
