(this is my pitch)

Inspiration

It’s Christmas Day and you take a walk at midnight in the city. You spot Santa in one of the houses down the street. From the window, you see that Santa enters the room of the children, hovering over them. Some bright smoke you suspect is their soul rises from the chest of the child into the eyes of Santa. Santa leaves with a wide grin. You research on this suspicion, but you know you wouldn’t find anything on Google so you go on Tor and you find the past findings of someone else who has researched this. Right. How else would elves come from? You’re shocked that Santa’s Workshop is completely opposite of what is depicted in pictures; There are horrible working conditions - it’s literally a sweatshop but worse! You need to save the children before more get elf-ed. You reach his workshop, but Santa catches you. He sends clones of himself to hunt you down. Can you escape?

What it does

It's a shooting game where you shoot down creepy Santa clones (I hope it's creepy).

How I built it

It was built using Unity.

  • Code:
    • most from Unity's FPS tutorial (so basically I was planning to learn Unity during the winter break and coincidentally there was the game jam so yeah except not enough time to make from scratch)
  • Graphic assets:
    • walls and similar were from the tutorial
    • creepy santa, gift, candy cane by me
    • screens by me
  • Audio assets:

Challenges we ran into

  • procrastination
  • unfamiliarity with Unity
  • computer being a heater
  • forgetting to save
  • slow comp

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I kinda made something in Unity?

What I learned

What's next for Santa Claws

  • many more levels
  • better graphics (more haunted and more christmas)
  • make it score based with a leaderboard
  • an option to make it multiplayer
  • include things to collect and more actions following the theme rather than pewpewpew
  • rating system + xp system
  • buyable weapons, skins, and powerups
  • minigames to earn credits for the weapons
    • some ideas i had for mini games included a "russian roulette christmas tree" where you take down ornaments where some might be bombs, a haunted version of a christmas carol rhythm game, and a maze
  • badges
  • profiles with win/loss + scores
  • random “rare” villains if you kill them, you “collect them”
