Inspiration: We wanted to create an accessible way for women to feel confident, express themselves, and enjoy high-end fragrances without breaking their bank. Scent-Sational was born from the idea that feeling amazing should be affordable with quality.
What it does: Scent-Sational is a simple and beginner-friendly webapp that provides alternative, budget-friendly fragrances inspired by popular high-end perfumes. By analyzing the signature notes of luxury scents, we create accessible options that capture the same essence, allowing women to enjoy a “scent-sational” experience every day.
How we built it:
Backend: Fragella API, Python, Supabase, Svetle Frontend: TailwindCSS, Svelte Deploy: Vercel
Challenges we ran into
So, we actually had more advanced project ahead of this that we started, however to a lot of complications and technical difficulties when it came to running it all together, there was far too much to debug. So we had to switch gears in the remaining 4 hours out of the 20 hours that went to developing our prior project. In the midst of it, we found ourselves thinking back to the very former idea we has inspired from another hackathon and decided to think about what women feel good about? Boom! Smelling good, therefore our simple WebApp deployed via Vercel works with finding and alternative match while still delivering quality in scents.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building something in the last 4 hours or so of the hackathon. We wanted to aim for something entirely beginner friendly yet also serves a purpose to those you are perfume-enthusiasts or just love to smell good and feel good about themselves.
What we learned
Stick with the tech stacks we know best. With out former project, we had a lot of issues to resolve due to the new environment we were working with, using maps, integrating it. At some point, it just was far to much. Another thing is also something sticking with the simpler things makes the plan a lot less complicated.
What's next for Scent-Sational
Definitely integrating a better and more creative UI system and adjusting card sizes. We want to compensate for the simple project with appealing UI/UX appearance reeling more women in to feel good about themselves.
