Inspiration
We have all seen examples of how social media can affect the mental health of a lot of people, mainly adolescents. What makes a social media great to be on is sharing your memories with other people. We wanted to capture this while removing the mental stress that such apps create, and came up with the idea of scrapbook.
What it does
It is a social media app where the only posts you can see or comment on are those you are in. This way, wherever you go and whoever you meet, you create a mini-journal of memories or scrapbook for your life. You can even print your own foldable scrapbook whenever you like.
How we built it
Bootstrapped with React.js and Express with a backend hosted on Google cloud.
Challenges we ran into
After creating a minimum viable product, we got lots of consumer feedback with users that we got to try our app. We heard a lot of feedback about adding more novel features, which led us to creating the physical foldable scrapbook generator.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud on a technical level of creating a React frontend and integrating it with an Express backend on Google Cloud with full social media functionality. On a more human level, we are proud of our fast-adapting strategy and consistent use of consumer feedback to continually iterate upon the app.
What we learned
We learned that consumer feedback is valuable and that the design cycle benefits adaptation above all.
What's next for scrapbook
We want to build a userbase and actually will use it among our friends to build little scrapbooks and remember the year.
