Inspiration

Recently, I saw a person who had a seizure in the school library and at that time I had no idea what to do. Luckily somebody rolled them over on her side and called the school emergency department. However, I was left there shocked, wonder what would happen to her if she had been on her own? Who would help her then??

What it does

Seizure Safe is a device for individuals who have epilepsy and have sensitivity to light. They are at high risk for seizures and might not always be around people during emergencies. Seizure Safe is a system which tries to predict if a person fell due to conditions which may induce a seizure and then alert the family members.

How we built it

Arduino, light sensor, accelerometer, flask, python

Challenges we ran into

I had no idea how to use an Arduino and spent 80% of the hackathon trying all the wrong ways.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Literally just getting the sensor data to even show up on screen. It's pretty crazy.

What we learned

Arduino + using python to read and write to it

What's next for SeizureSafe

A better UI which tracks the history of exposure to light sensitivity, potential areas to avoid, use of AI/ML for better predicitions and individual sensitivity levels.
