Inspiration

Personal finance is hard, and with the struggles and obligations of daily life, many people are not able to learn about and practice good financial behaviors, especially how to invest. We just wanted to create a fun and interactive infographic web-app that helps them quickly learn these essential skills.

What it does

Serious Vizness is simply a quick way to help people visualize their current subscription expenses, their retirement goals, and three ways that they can achieve it. In terms of investing, we want to give a brief introduction to three types of investing: income investing with SCHD, growth stocks with QQQ, and indexed fund with SPY. We pick these exchange-traded funds (ETFs) because they are a type of fund that hold multiple underlying assets and a popular choice for diversification and long-term investment.

How we built it

The project is purely based on React, the Material UI library, the Recharts library, and recent NASDAQ daily stock data.

Challenges we ran into

Understanding React Hooks and data flow, and integrating an interactive graph and pie chart into the application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a beautiful, responsive, and user-friendly UI with complex interactive components.

What we learned

How to divide tasks and work efficiently, and picking up new technologies and library on the fly!

Deployment to the internet and creating interactive custom inputs and tickets.
